Getting ready for a tattoo appointment

Getting a tattoo, whether small or large is a major ordeal! While everyone responds to pain differently, you are best following these tips to allow your mind and body to be ready for tattooing, especially when it is a longer sitting. Hours of tattooing can really take it out anyone, even if the pain is manageable.

  1. Get a good night’s sleep

Being well rested means your body has the energy to get you through your tattoo session, especially if it is lengthy sitting.

  2. Eat a hearty meal

Eating before you come in for your tattoo appointment is so crucial as your body needs the calories to get you through the tattoo appointment. This goes hand in hand with getting a good night’s rest.

Be sure to also take a lunch break to refuel if you’re sitting a full day session. This will really help you get through those final few hours.

  3. Stay hydrated

Load up on the H2O! This is all about having your body in an optimal state for tattooing. It also makes your skin easier to work with.

  4. Pack snacks

Sugar and fatty snacks will help your body reload on those much needed calories to get you through your sitting. Don’t forget your water bottle!

  5. Watch your face!

Now this is an odd tip, but one we picked up from the amazing world of hypnobirthing. Keep your face relaxed. Whenever you tense your face, such as pursing your lips or frowning, your body will tend to follow - all this makes the pain worse. Focusing on keeping your face relaxed as much as possible.

  6. Be mentally prepared

All tattoos hurt. How much it hurts, depends on the person. However, having an expectation of pain will help you mentally throughout the process, as you will most likely find yourself surprised at how you’re handling the tattoo.
