FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Do you take walk ins?

Yes, subject to availability. However, we recommend contacting us beforehand to avoid disappointment.

Do I need to book a tattoo appointment ahead of time?

Booking ahead is highly recommended. Our artists are generally booked out anywhere from two weeks to months in advance; so we can’t always guarantee availabilities for a walk in, especially on weekends.

We do always try our best to accomodate last minute booking requests, however.

How do I make a booking?

You can contact us through phone, email, or through our enquiry form. You can also contact the artist directly.

All bookings require a deposit, which will go towards the cost of the tattoo. Deposits are non-refundable.

What information do you need from me to make a booking?

For us to understand what you after, we need to know:

  • What the design is - a description and reference photos are required

  • The placement of the tattoo

  • The dimensions of the tattoo - “small”, “medium” or “large” do not give us an indication of size, as these are subjective descriptions. The dimensions also help us understand the proportions that we are working with.

  • Whether you have any skin conditions

  • Whether the tattoo is a cover up.

Our enquiry form covers all the information necessary to make a booking.

Do you do cover ups?

That depends on what is being covered up. Some tattoos can be easily covered up, others, not so easily. So, you should be open minded. In order to cover up a tattoo, you should expect that the new tattoo will be larger and darker than the existing tattoo. We may also suggest that you seek laser removal treatments.

Does it hurt?

Pain is subjective. The level of pain will vary depending on the placement of your tattoo, but will also depend on how long your session is and whether you have eaten and are well rested. To manage your own expectations, always expect some level of pain or discomfort.

I’m undecided about the placement of my tattoo. Can I decide on the day?

Generally, for smaller tattoos, deciding on the day won’t be an issue. Please note depending on what the tattoo is, there may be design limitations with certain placements. It is always best to have some sort of an idea of where you want the tattoo before making an enquiry.

Can you recommend a tattoo for me?

Tattoos are art, and art is very subjective and personal. So, to recommend a tattoo for you would be like ‘throwing a dart in the dark’.

Tattoos are on your body permanently, so we highly recommend doing your research before making an enquiry.

Once we have an understanding of what you like, only then can we make design recommendations.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, we do! Send us an email and we can arrange a gift voucher for you.

Do you only take cash?

We have EFTPOS facilities, and prefer payment by EFTPOS.

Do you have a shop minimum and what is it?

$150 is our minimum.

For apprentices, the minimum is $110.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Pricing is based on the tattoo.

We can provide a cost estimate at the time an enquiry or booking is made. When we estimate the cost of a tattoo, we take into consideration the complexity of the design, the expected time for completion, the size and the placement of the tattoo.

For small scale tattoos, the actual cost is not known until a design has been finalised, and the stencil has been printed.

For large scale tattoos, we charge by the hour. The actual cost will very much depend on the design, actual size of the tattoo, your pain tolerance and how well you sit for the tattoo.

What’s the hourly rate?

Each tattoo artist will have a different hourly rate. Please contact us if you would like to know the hourly rate of a specific artist.

Do you charge by the hour or by the tattoo?

For small scale tattoos, we charge by the tattoo.

For large scale tattoos, we charge by the hour. Generally, large scale tattoos are any tattoos that will take 3 or more hours to complete.

What should I do before my appointment?

We’ve compiled a list of all the things you should do to prepare for your appointment with us here: https://www.markdtattoo.com.au/preparing-for-your-appointment

Do I have to be over 18 to be tattooed?

In short, yes.

Can I bring my friends and family to my appointment?

Our highest priority is in the safety of our clients and artists and delivering the best tattoo possible. For this reason, along with council regulations imposed on us, we do not allow plus ones in the studio.

Plus ones will be asked to wait outside the studio.

When do I get to see the tattoo design?

Designs are generally not shown until the day of the appointment.

Enough time is allocated so that you and the artist can sit and review the design together. Communication is better this way, and the artist will be more than happy to make minor changes, if any.

Your tattoo artist will not prepare a stencil until are you both are completely happy with the design.

Do you do laser removal?

We don’t, but we highly recommend our friends at Fade Laser in Paddington.
